I remember the moment I identified as a Big Cat.
First, I discovered I was a Leo Rising (for the unindoctrinated - this is the sign in your astrological birth chart that represents your social style and how you come off to people when you first meet). According to Co-Star, this means my energy comes across as either “a know-it-all or a live wire — but always the center of attention.” Naturally, like any elder Millennial, I treat my chart with the reverence of the Rosetta Stone.
Next, I learned I was born in the Year of the “Fire” Tiger in the Chinese Zodiac. As fiery as their element suggests, Fire Tigers blaze trails with passion and enthusiasm. Signature traits are their boldness and charisma.
Finally, when my brothers declared my spirit animal was the “Bengal Tiger” (independent of these other ‘signs’), I decided to embrace my inner Sasha Fierce and step fully into my Queen of the Jungle status.
To paraphrase one of my all-time favorite campaigns for a certain low-brow liquor brand, I believe “everyone has a little bit of the Big Cat in them.” We just need to let ‘er out of the cage.
